Design of an education strategy

The CKS DRG team prepared a new learning strategy that was presented to the members of the Reimbursement Mechanisms and Price Regulation Steering Committee (RSC).

At the 45th RV meeting, motion 2 was voted in favour and will come into effect during the current year.

By 2020, 275 professionally competent persons (PCPs) had been trained, of which 38% were medically trained.

The CKS DRG team intends to primarily focus on education of designees for the medical (correct use of coding rules) and economic (correct use of the costing manual) areas. At the same time, the CKS DRG team will fully support hospitals in the development of professional coders.

Professional coders are the future of DRGs, the classification of inpatient admissions for inpatient healthcare providers. In Austria, mostly inpatient cases (HP) are coded by professional coders[1], in the UK and Spain only professional coders have beencoding for a long time as well as in the US.

In view of the SC vote, the CKS DRG team will devote its full efforts to re-initiate the training of the OSOs or the persons considered by the CKS DRG team as professional guarantors for the medical and economic part and hospitals with coding centers.
